Playa Rosa: a pink dream
One attraction not to be missed in Mexico is the Playa Rosa, located in the Mexican peninsula of Yucatan. This lagoon is located in the small fishing village of Las Coloradas. The name comes from the color pink of the water, which is so intense that it is almost hard to believe it is real. But don’t worry, there’s an explanation for everything! But don’t worry, there’s an explanation for everything! The water is inhabited by red plankton and a very high number of mugwort, a small saltwater crustacean also of red color. In addition to the chemical residues they produce, their color is the reason for the coloration of the water and the fairy-tale landscape created. The charm is made even more striking by the contrast with the fine white sand. Unlike what one might think, the phenomenon of water coloring is quite frequent and the Yucatan is just one of the many places in the world where it occurs. The closest town to this charming destination is Río Lagartos. About thirty minutes away from Las Coloradas, you will find restaurants and accommodation options where you can enjoy a relaxing holiday.
